Deputy Director, AI for Good Research Lab Microsoft
As the Deputy Director of the AI for Good Research Lab, Dr. Dodhia manages a team of research scientists in their efforts to address global challenges using data science and artificial intelligence. He is particularly focused on areas such as sustainability, humanitarian action, health, and issues related to misinformation and cybersecurity, with a particular emphasis on addressing climate adaptation in the Global South.
Dr. Dodhia possesses a wealth of expertise in the field, having earned a Ph.D. in mathematical psychology from Columbia University, where he conducted research on models of human memory and decision-making. Additionally, he holds a B.A. in mathematics, summa cum laude, from Brandeis University.
Prior to his current role, Dr. Dodhia has held positions at NASA Ames Research Center, where he applied fundamental research on human memory to safety concerns in general aviation and space flight, and at various companies including eBay, Amazon, Expedia, and several startups, where he developed teams working on machine intelligence, statistics, and AI.
He has also taught seminars on statistics and data analysis and spoken at conferences in various countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, UK, Japan, Philippines, Kenya, Canada, and the US. He has also volunteered with and provided pro bono data science consulting services to several nonprofits and charities in the US and Kenya.
Dr. Dodhia was born and raised in Kenya. He is an avid traveler and a competitive sheepherder.
